Gelibolu is  a town and a district of Çanakkale Province, Turkey, located on the Gallipoli peninsula in the European part of Turkey. Gelibolu is well-known for sardine canning. The Battle of Gallipoli took place at Gallipoli from April 1915 to December 1915 during the First World War. A joint Imperial British and French operation was mounted to capture the Ottoman capital of Istanbul and provide a secure sea route for military and agricultural trade with the Russians. The attempt failed, with heavy casualties on both sides.
Battle of Gallipoli.

In Turkey, the campaign is known as the Çanakkale Savaşları, after the province of Çanakkale. In the United Kingdom, it is called the Dardanelles Campaign or Gallipoli. In France it is called Les Dardanelles. In Australia, New Zealand and Newfoundland it is known as the Gallipoli Campaign or simply as Gallipoli.

In the background of this web page you see a map which was drawn by The Turkish Admiral Piri Reis in the city of Gelibolu between the 9th of March and the 7th of April of the year 1513.

OUR COMENIUS SCHOOL PROJECT

"The influence of cultural environment on the development of a young person –  a citizen of a native country and the EU"

At first I want to thank to Miss. Malgorzata- an english teacher in Poland. Because she worked hard and arranged a great project which will enlighten the participants, their schools and their countries. Of course all other participants have worked a lot to take role in this multi collective project. So we are quite exciting to meet them in the first meeting in Greece.

Every nation is a community of people connected by  family and culture. The family has a great input in creating an identity of a young person, his/her system of values and it motivates them to participate in cultural events. One of the motives of uniting the European countries is crossing the national boundaries not forgetting national identities.
It is possible thanks to meeting people from other countries and knowing their culture.
The project ‘ The influence of cultural environment on the development of a young person – a citizen of a native country and the EU “ includes the following subjects:
1.Family environment: the youth get to know the structure of a family, system of values, traditions, celebrations, ways of spending free time in partnership countries. The project aims at grammar school students, who will have their own families soon. The acquired experience and information gained from the comparison of different models of families they can use in their own life.
2. The local environment: young people will get information about local institutions supporting the development of young people and they will get to know their offers concerning the development of interests and talents in partnership countries.
Students participating in the project will have a chance to know the influence of local culture and European culture on the development of young people.

Students and teachers participating in the Project:
- will have an opportunity to know the structure of a family, traditions, ways of spending free time, celebrations in participating countries
- will know the local community of participating countries and the possibilities of developing their interests, practising sports, taking part in cultural life (cinema, theatre, etc.)
- will learn about the social welfare of participating countries – system of scholarships
- students will widen their abilities of team work and work through projects
By doing this they will be able to see the similarities and differences, breaking the stereotypes, improving tolerance, taking different tasks. The students will improve their knowledge of foreign languages, IT, mathematics (statistics).
Teachers will use the results and experience as a base of ideas to introduce innovations in their own school. They will have a motivation to improve their knowledge of the English language and IT. Having known the results of students’ work local institutions and the school community will increase their knowledge of life in participating countries. Gained information may be helpful to take new tasks concerning the life of the youth.
